Minimum wage is the set amount an individual makes an hour. There is no set minimum wage from state to state. It must be equal or greater than the federal level. Many people thought of the minimum wage to be a violation of the 5th amendment. In 1938 there was a minimum wage set at 40 cents an hour. The state with the largest minimum wage is Washington which is set at $8.55. As the economy changes so will the minimum wage. It hasn 't been changed from 7.50 in five years. If the minimum wage was lower then there would be a lot more people in the workforce, because it affects poverty, employment rate, and overall productivity. Many people thought to believe that the minimum wage law was a violation of the 5th amendment which says , but in 1937 there were many states who thought about that idea and voted that it was not a valid opinion. People that aren 't able to be receive minimum wage, those would be: people with disabilities, full-time college students, People who receive more than $30 in tips a month, workers who are under 20 for their first 90 days of working, and also Illegal Immigrant because the company doesn’t need to pay them minimum wage because the immigrants can’t complain or sue because they have the risk of being sent back home. There are also some people who do get minimum wage they would be : Anyone older than 16 who are working in some part of the workforce (“Minimum Wage”).
