Millions of American employees are working countless hours every week to earn inadequate wages that result in many families to live in poverty or depending on paycheck to paycheck. Bernie Sanders has the right approach when he quotes, “the current federal minimum wage is a starvation wage.” It is time for a change so the American population needs better wages, the American population should increase the minimum wage to benefit every American business and the economy, and with an increase in pay, the American population will be able to improve the ability to buy goods and services.

For instance, if a person has a raise on his or her paycheck and after paying all house expenses including bills, that person may save a decent amount of money. If his or her car was not to function well, that human being has a few options of what best fit his or her desire; they can go out to the mechanic shop to get it fixed and repaired or the individual can decide go out and purchase a brand new car without taking any loans from a bank, family members, a friends. There will be no need of repaying anyone back or working extra shifts to pay back what he or she owed. In summary, if the minimum wage was to increase people will not have to depend on taking loan or borrow money from no one. I strongly believe this will increase job opportunity for the American population.

As the years have gone by, minimum wage jobs have evolved from supporting teenagers and giving them the necessary experience in the work field to supporting families. It’s this change in dynamics that fuels the argument that minimum wage should increase to a living wage. What people fail to realize is that minimum wage exists for a reason and should it be increased; the positive impacts are outweighed by the negative impacts in the economy.…

The Social Problem Minimum wage was first created in 1938 during the Great Depression under Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) presidency. Minimum wage started off as $0.25 an hour and has been changed for a total of 22 times by the year 2009. Initially, minimum was introduced to cover women and minors, due to the fact that white men were able to rely on the union as a safety net and that they earned higher wages (Kaufman, 2012). Currently in Louisiana minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Although the current minimum wage is significantly higher than what it used to be at $ 0.25, it still does not suffice to meeting the modern individual’s needs in 2017.…

Lately in the United States a very controversial topic has been minimum wage. Many people within the country argue whether or not it should stay the way it currently is or have an increase in how much it pays. I believe there should not be an increase to minimum wage. If there is an increase to minimum wage many fast food places would be encouraged to speed up the process of automating their ordering service to be able to save money by not having to pay workers. An increase to minimum wage will also cause job opportunity for low skilled workers and then harder to find a job that would be better for them to be able to live well.…

Raising the minimum wage does not come without its issues. Federal minimum wage is set at $7.25 currently and there are many debates on raising it from that to $12 or $15. Many Americans think this is a good idea and its going to yield a higher yearly income, this is true. On the contrary is is also going to inflate the prices of the goods we purchase.
