However, people should be paid according to their qualifications or strive to develop the appropriate skills for a higher wage. It should not be made mandatory by the government to make a set amount if you do not have the required skills. Some individuals have only one job that pays the state minimum wage and they expect society (through government subsidies) to help them make ends meet when they can get a second job that pays the same amount or another job with a higher wage that will increase their financial stability. One Florida business owner Dr. Faye Golden of Golden Chiropractic and Wellness Center, caters to a low income community where the majority of her patients make minimum wage. She regularly sees patients for free and takes alternate forms of payment like fresh fruit or homemade soup because her patients want to contribute towards their health care expense and are unable to do so. Dr. Golden feels as though the increased rate means her patients can by food that is healthier which makes for a healthier community in turn making a better economy. She currently has one employee and pays her employee above the federal rate.
