I once attended a protest to raise the minimum wage and stop income inequality. Here, I heard stories of mothers, students, single fathers, and immigrants who were disadvantaged in so many ways, speaking of their financial hardships. One 15 year old spoke of her disabled mother and 9 siblings who she worked 40 hours a week at Burger King to help support while maintaining her 4.0 GPA in the hopes of someday becoming a nurse. She spoke about how her $8 an hour turned to $6 after having taxes taken out and how that money took food out of her siblings mouth, robbed her mother of proper medical attention and took the bus fare she used to get to her home, work and school right out of her pocket.
