This past summer, I began workouts with the football team. We lifted weights and each player had the goal of impressing the coaches early on. Not feeling any need to rush, I take my time. My mother always voices her displeasure with my dawdling while doing chores. Again, I never really understood this and could never hasten my pace. It was extremely frustrating. Nothing bothered me more than trying my best to fix my flaws, but being unable due to not knowing how.
It wasn’t until I connected everything in my life, that I learned how to change myself. It didn’t matter if I was doing chores, playing sports, or completing schoolwork. Everything was and is connected. Simply waking up earlier in the morning was my first step. Still, I’m in the process of trying to “have a sense of urgency.” Every day, I’m trying to beat my mom out the door in the morning, be the first player ready for football practice, and do everything with a “sense of urgency.” It’s definitely working, because I have to think about it less and less. It’s turning into a habit, a mindset.
Change is difficult. I believe that the difficult part is learning how to change. I’ve only recently learned for myself. Your life is based on your mindset and the scope of your world is based on your mindset. In order to improve, we must change. In order to change, we must find a new way of thinking. I’m just happy I can say I know what my coaches mean when they say, “Mindset is
