Positivity is a broad term which encompasses positive emotions and optimistic outlook (Fredrickson, 2009). Positivity is essential for students in their academic life. In fact, researchers found that students who experience more positive affect are more committed to their studies, are better at problem solving (Reschly, Huebner, Appleton and Antaramian, 2008), and they also behave better (Flook et al. 2015). Pekrun, Goetz, Titz and Perry (2002) looked at the function of emotions in the students’ learning process and discovered that positive emotions had an activating effect on students’ motivation, on their self-regulation as well as on their use of more creative learning strategies and resources.

They measured optimism and positive affect plus self-concept and emotional functioning. A total of 246 children from 12 classrooms participated in the study, half receiving ME training while the other half was put on a waiting list. Students in the ME program learned to quiet their mind, to be mindful of their present experiences, to manage negative emotions and to acknowledge themselves and others. Results evidenced a substantial increase in optimism and a tendency in the test group to score higher on PANAS’ positive emotions subscale, particularly among preadolescents, compared to the students placed on the control group. Even though the last post-test evaluation did not extend beyond the school year, these results are encouraging.
Fredrickson, Cohn, Coffey, Pek and Finkel (2008) report clear evidence that Loving-Kindness Meditation (LKM) led to increased daily positive emotions. A group of working adults (n=139) filled daily mood reports for 9 weeks and received weekly LKM instructions from week 2 to week 7. As hypothesized, participants saw their level of positive affect increase as well as their wellbeing, thus confirming the ability of meditation to positively influence one’s emotional
