Minden Outpatient Lab Reflection

Decent Essays
Today I drove to Minden Outpatient lab the girls there were nice and willing to teach me and showed me how everything worked there. I got a lot of draw there as the patients were nice to let me draw on them. Most of the people here were elderly and they had great stories of survival and how they had battled cancer. You could tell how alive they felt by the way they expressed themselves, it gave me another reason to be thankful for.
I learned once more how important it is to properly identify the patients. There was one case when we called a patient in when she sat in the chair to get drawn we checked their name and it did not match. We checked birth date and it did not match if we had drawn without checking the name and date of birth we would

For my written critique, I chose to talk about an AP pelvis and surgical lateral hip image that I performed on my ER days’ rotation. My patient complained of entire right hip pain. The patient stated that he had heard a loud popping sound when he stood up earlier that day. He had not walked since. The patient suffers from frequent hip dislocations and was positive that he had dislocated it once again.…

Shadowing a variety of hospitalists gave me the opportunity to observe the broad spectrum of patient care. I witnessed firsthand the anguish and pain associated with the loss of a patient. I learned that while many diagnoses may be identical, no two patients are the same. Additionally I was introduced to an aspect of patient care that often remains unmentioned; the task of updating and completing patients’ medical records which may be a tedious, yet extremely vital aspect of patient care. Overall, my shadowing experiences solidified my decision to continue my journey of becoming a physician to treat patients in all aspects required in medical care.…

Ending the prayer, a feeling filled my body as if we would never see each other in the flesh again so race behind her before she made it to the top of the stairs to give her a hug. She replied, “I love you too.” After hours of fighting, I return to my room to wait on my roommate for 7 months to talk about the events of the day. An hour passed and no word. Shortly, there was a knock on the door requesting medical assistance because of my role as a first responder on the Medic Emergency Team.…

A Respiratory Therapists role in long-term care facility and Homecare My time working at CCOH and RHCS was exciting and interesting. Although they are both respiratory therapist jobs, they each demonstrated something different. While CCOH showed how it is to work in a long-term facility and have consistent patient interaction. At RHCS driving around to the client’s place of business or residence to check on, or collect the equipment, made it personal able.…

I and Jack met the patient in the Healthy Heart Program waiting room upon which our patient James discussed his interest in music and ability to play musical instruments with us. We discussed how Jazz was a form of rebellion against traditional music and how it was born in bars not college campuses. Next our patient was taken to a patient room to have his vitals take. It is interesting to see that in hospitals so much of the data collection and recording regarding a patient is done using technology.…

Evaluate research for use in nursing practice. The two patients I followed, both had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy with intraoperative cholangiogram and were advised to be NPO (nothing by mouth) after midnight before their surgery was supposed to take place. According to the University of Minnesota Health (2016), the new evidenced-based research suggested that the old standard rule of “NPO after midnight,” is unnecessary and the new evidence-based research suggested allowing patients to drink clear liquids until two hours before their surgery; this is the new guidelines suggested by anesthesiologists.…

During the second week of class, one of my fellow classmates and I were provided the opportunity to engage with standardized patients (SPs), provide care, and develop our caring techniques (Bornais, J., El-Masri, M., Krahn, R. & Raiger, J., 2012). The scenario provided for this week involved Brandon Sharp, a gentleman who suffers from a spinal cord injury. When providing care for Brandon, my partner and I began by completing a focused assessment on his nervous system and moved onto bathing the SP, changing the soiled bedding, and completing a head-to-toe assessment, which we forgot to complete alongside the focused assessment. We then finished this provision of care by feeding Brandon applesauce & juice and moving him to his wheelchair via…

Volunteering at The Salvation Army I realized this was my chance to make a difference. When people hear that a person is “homeless,” I’m sure the first thing that comes to mind is a bum, dirty clothes, a drug addict, and a drunk. However, that is not the case at all. Living in times like these, recession plays a huge role on unemployment rates which eventually leads to homelessness. Not only that but natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy, left thousands of people homeless in New York.…
