He failed at this first business, then failing later again, he eventually found success in his Carmel Company. Before he found success his family members had labeled him as a failure, and they had all given up on him. They were unwilling to lend him money because he had failed one to many times for them. His aunt helped him open his first store by loaning him one hundred dollars. The cost of everything in that store was one cent. She helped him run the business until it eventually failed. Many times his aunt would write to his uncle asking for more money because she knew that it was failing. When it failed he watched six years of tiring work go down the drain. After this third failed attempt his family was officially shunning him. One person still had faith in Hershey and that was a man who once worked for him named Henry Lebkicher. He offered Hershey a place to live, and also money to get candy making equipment. This gesture to Hershey was enough to finally strike success in his business. By 1893 the Lancaster Company had 4 locations and thirteen thousand workers. He sold his successful company for one million dollars. He sold it because he fell in love with making chocolates.
