When someone hears the name Milton Hershey, they think of the delectable chocolate that his company, The Hershey Company, produces. Many though do not know about the owner’s life and the struggle he went through to become a true chocolatier of entrepreneurs. Milton Hershey, was born on September 13th, 1857 in a small rural Pennsylvania county named Derry Township. While growing up, he spoke in Pennsylvania Dutch and followed the tradition of religion as Mennonite. Mentioned in Milton Hershey School‘s website, “Though Milton’s mother was a staunch member of the Reformed Mennonite Church and wore plain clothes and a bonnet throughout her life, formal religion was never a part of Milton Hershey’s life.” (http://www.mhskids.org/about/school-history/milton-s-hershey/) …show more content…
In 1886, Milton Hershey founded the Lancaster Caramel Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which was a huge success, He decided to sell the company. He used the profits from the Lancaster Caramel company to create a new company. With the land purchased, Hershey began to work on a formula for an affordable, accessible milk chocolate bar. By the end of 1900, he had sold his first Hershey Bar. Hershey's Kisses followed seven years later. With the success of his company, he built Milton designed, fostered and helped build a model town complete with trolley systems, houses, schools, swimming pools and even a zoo! This is the town that later became known as Hershey, PA. (https://www.hersheys.com/en_us/our-story/hersheys-happiness-history.html) His most successful project ouside our the Hershey Candy Conpany was Hershey Park, The orginal goal for the park was for his facitilities workers when they had off. They enjoy amusements with their friends and family. Once Hershey passed in 1945, Hershey Park boomed and now has seventy amusement attractions, including thirteen roller coasters, and water rides.
