In this article, the author discusses Millennials’ communicated values and expectations and their potential effect on coworkers, as well as how work- place interaction may change Millennials. But I only find few words about this. And here are some ideas when I read this part. First, Millennials expect close relationships and frequent feedback from supervisors. Although appropriate self-disclosure can remove stress and give people many opportunities for gather understanding and better relationship with others, this doesn’t mean that the higher self-disclosure will have better results. Second, Millennials expect to have open communication with their supervisors. While the context of open communication may include trade secrets or privacy. The expectation of open communication from their supervisors makes them more appropriate to the human relation management approaches. However, the human resources management method is more popular currently, because it maximized the productivity of the organization which is quite important for the organization. And on the organizational effectiveness side, it would be difficult indeed to find managers today who would characterize their subordinates as interchangeable cogs whose needs play no role in organizational decisions.(引用课本53页) This means that Millennials need to change their mind to adapt to the working-place environments, especially adapt to the human resources management method . First, young people are always able to change the world, they use new technologies rebuilt the channel of communication. Even face to face communication is still irreplaceable, the work efficiency has been improved dramatically by those changes. Second, the changes are interaction, those older generations also have an impact on Millennials’ communication style and channels. What’s more, I would love to say the changes in organizations. The author cites Gorman et al.’s opinion that Millennials ‘‘could essentially be employee lead users’’ of CITs. Indeed, organization is a dynamic system, employees need to keep in step with organization. Otherwise, there will have two possibilities—they will be changed by organizations or they may face expectancy violation in the membership negotiation
