Millennial Generation Summary

The CQ Researcher article Millennial Generation by Alan Greenblat explores who this generation is as well as how their beliefs have been shaped. Through many different articles, studies, and excerpts, a better idea of who the Millennials are is created, as well as how they differ from past generations. Additionally, Greenblat reveals how their characteristics may change the country for further generations. Millennial Generation describes this group as those aged 18 to 34. The Millennial generation is not only the largest currently living generation, but also the most diverse. Claiming around 75 million people puts the group just past Baby Boomers in terms of population, and nearly half of the generation is made up of minority races which is about double what the Baby Boomer generation was comprised of (553, 556). In addition, this generation has emerged through immense struggle, including the Great Recession and its aftermath as well as increasing student debt rates coupled with an inadequate job market. In terms of lifestyle, some characteristics of Millennials include lower rates of negative behaviors like drinking and smoking than their Baby Boomer counterparts. As time went on however, sales (such as cars) started to spike when things were looking up for the younger generation. Page 560 of Millennial Generation discusses how Millennials are as much of consumers as other generations but the difference is the way they consume. For these younger people, it makes more sense to use social media and other technology, and this is how they stay financially conscious as well. Someone of the Millennial generation is more likely to see something in store and shop around online to find the best deal, as opposed to a Baby Boomer who is more likely to just buy on the spot or through more name
