Doing is more important than knowing. Result are placed at higher value than knowledge stored in their brain. With the technological advances of their time and the fast information available on every smart device the information retention has almost become obsolete. That is why the Gen Y learners prefer more interaction in smaller groups and teamwork.
Trial and error approach
During the Y Gen the learned behaviour is more trial and error. Due to the lack of information retention this generation prefers to learn by making errors. For example, playing computer games. Through this they learn each time what is not possible by taking another avenue. …show more content…
Some parents are comfortable with paper printouts and prefer this method where other parents (Gen X) prefer mostly electronic communications. Best is for a teacher to find out which method is best for her class and to only communicate to her parents in this manner while keeping costs down.
Family resources are limited
In the newer eras we have seen an increase in the working hours of both parents. Due to this the resources available to spend time with the child at school is limited and also funds for aftercare is balanced between working and needing to provide.
Underestimating parent’s abilities
As most children come from impoverished backgrounds, teachers believe that the parents do not have sufficient knowledge or understanding to support their children through school. Many of these parents make up for this by having active discussions with their children with regards to what they did at school and how the importance of doing well in school will influence their future.
