Milkyway: A Short Story

It was a warm Saturday night when Farkle and a group of friends decided to go camping. He knew the best spot to go, Oak Openings Park. This is where families from Youstown go to get away and it was close to home. They hopped in the van Farkle had rented and set on their way to the park. They arrived around 5 a.m to get there early and have enough time to do everything on their list. “I want to go fishing first,” said Milkyway eagerly, twiddling his fingers. “I heard that the biggest bass in the world had been caught in this pond.”
“Of course Milkyway would want to go fishing, he probably wants to dissect and write down his sighting in his black book,” laughed Rodger, pointing. “You’re such a nerd.”
“And you’re nothing but a bully,” scoffed Milkyway clutching his fist. “One day you’re gonna get yours.”
“What are you gonna do about it,” Roger whispers angrily, getting in Milkyway’s face. “ Nothing, that’s what you’re gonna do.” Farkle steps in between the two and offers for us all to watch the sunrise, so we all grab our blankets from the back of the van and

It was a fun filled day, it was honestly a group of friends having a day out having some fun. We ended the day with a camp fire outside of our tents, Myrtle and her sister quietly gossiping and snickering about something that they saw earlier. Roger pointed at milkyway, mocking the way he spoke. Then there’s me, who is slowly pulling out a bag of marshmallows and some scours. We all quieted down, each of us throwing marshmallows after marshmallows down our throats. All of a sudden Roger stood up and accused Milkyway of eating too many marshmallows. It was a petty argument that had sent Roger over the edge. Milkyway stood up next, just mocking the way he was overreacting; then with one swift motion MilkyWay was on the floor. Roger was on top of Milkyway who was now flailing his arms and

The Story of Dark Matter began when scientists observed that planets such as Mercury and Uranus did not seem to follow the Newtonian physics law for the planets. Some unseen force seemed to be blocking their trajectory. While Fritz Zwicky was observing galaxies outside the Milky Way, he made the hypothesis that the galaxies were attracting one another through gravity. He came up with a complex formula which he thought could tell him three things: “1) the radial extent of a system, 2) the mean square of the velocities of a system, (or) 3) the total mass of the system.” Just as when a bunch of marbles which are dropped into a solid well could eventually tell us how deep it is, Mr. Zwicky figured a similar idea for galaxies when they first fell…

There are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe. The first galaxies formed around 13.5 billion years ago after the big bang and the dark ages. NASA states that, “After the Big Bang, the Universe was composed of radiation and subatomic particles.” There are two theories about what happened next. The first theory is that small particles slowly team up and gradually form stars, star clusters, and eventually galaxies.…

The Milky Way is a flat spiraling galaxy that consists of billions of stars. Our solar system is included within the Milky Way, and from our perspective the Milky Way looks like a band of light that wraps around our solar system. A key question that Dr. Troland asked was “where are we in the universe?”. Well we live on earth, which is part of our solar system, our solar system is part of the Milky Way, and the Milky Way is part of a cluster of galaxies called the Local Group. Astronomers use different wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation to measure celestial objects.…
