In Milkweed the author states “Look, I said, the Jackboots! I thought he would cheer, but he did not. He stood behind me with his hands on my shoulders” This shows that Misha was not afraid of the Jackboots and he was happy. But in the poem it states “ I looked down at my feet. Step, step. Thump, thump, my heart is racing. But my feet walk as if they have nothing to fear” This shows that she was very scared and she didn’t want to pass by the guard to get to her Aunt Sara’s apartment. In Milkweed Misha interacted with the guard and in “Until Then I Had Only Read About These Things in Books” she/he did not interacted with the guard. In Milkweed MIsha says “I’m not a Jew, I told him. I held up my yellow stone. I’m a Gypsy. My reply delighted. Ah,so, a Gypsy, he said” Misha wasn’t afraid he was talking to him like a brother not someone that was going to kill
