Milk And Honey

I recently have fallen in love with poetry because of the book Milk and honey by Rupi Kaur. In Milk and honey, Kaur talks about many different topics including love, loss, trauma, and femininity. It's divided into four parts the hurting, the loving, the breaking, and the healing. Her passion went from drawing to writing and performing which led to milk and honey.
Milk and honey is her take on violence/abuse,love,loss , and of course femininity. Each chapter is suppose to deal with a different type of pain to healing a different type of heartache. For myself, this book took me on a journey of some of life's bitter moments no one wants to deal with. But also taught me to find sweetness in those bitter moments because just like Kaur always says "There

I am writing my essay over the poems “Mountain Boomer” by Howard Starks, “Chahta Ahaya Moma” by Ron Wallace, and “Hurt Hawks” by Robinson Jeffers. The reason why I chose these three poems is because they all seem to have a distinct form of sadness. They are about being cornered, destroyed, and/or killed. I like these poems because of how sad and true they are. They represent the things we humans have a tendency to do at times, whether to humans or animals.…

The first poem I wrote for this collection was Depression. Originally, it was very narrative so it took a while for me to decide whether to make the basic concept into a poem or story. Eventually I decided on writing a poem as I didn’t have much experience with writing poetry so I saw it as a personal challenge. I realised the original concept was not very cohesive, so I wrote a rough storyline to work through in order to make the piece more cohesive.…

In all aspects of society, various themes that affect everyone in life exist. These themes include love, heartbreak, beauty, death, joy, and others. Literature often embodies these examples in ways that the audience can relate to, no matter the time period it is published in. Poems can express the themes of love and death better than many other forms of literature, as they tend to be shorter. Two poems, “My Mistress’ Eyes Are Nothing Like the Sun” and “Death, Be Not Proud,” are sonnets, with fourteen lines and a form of rhyming scheme known as iambic pentameter.…

During the Age of Enlightenment, thinkers believed in reason, liberty, and scientific methods instead of tradition and religion. Many writers published their works that stated the problems of the misuse of religion and the importance of critical thinking. Moliere was one of writers during the Age of Enlightenment, known mostly for his comedy. He was a French play writer who wrote the comedy Tartuffe, which shows the concept of religious hypocrisy, ignorance and fanaticism. In the drama, he created various characters who represent different values of Enlightenment.…

Poets use intimate stories to express broad concepts that relate to us and the world around us. The first of two poems I’m going to show convey this message is John Foulchers poem ‘HARRY WOOD’ he shows survival, sacrifice and regret survival through an anecdote of an old retired miner who started his life in poverty and struggled to give his family a better future. The second poem ‘Joanna’s bedroom’ by Steven Herrick shows concepts of unconditional love, ups and downs and emotions through a couple’s destructive battle. Survival is human instinct. It flows through us, can force us to do terrible things and pushes some of us to do the impossible.…

The poem I have chosen to analyise is “Déjà la nuit en son parc ammassait...” by du Bellay. The reason I chose this poem is because after analyising it, I was fascinated by the themes and what appears to me as, du Bellay's view of life. In my opinion, the poet explores not only the basic themes of love and nature but also the link between nature and human beings. In the first stanza, the poet personifies the night saying that it is the night that gathers the wondering stars “un grand tropeau d'étoiles”…
