Milk and Honey
I have read the book Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur several times. I have related to this book in several different ways. This book has showed me that everything I have once felt, thought, or went through has a solution. Milk and Honey shows you that it is okay to express yourself, and no feeling is wrong. From heartbreaks, family issues, self esteem problems, or even social issues, Milk and Honey has made a page about it. Going through my first breakup I decided to read Milk and Honey for the fun of it. The book was very talked about on all social media, so it made me even more interested in reading the book. After receiving the book as a Christmas gift I discovered it was a book for feminists. I never thought of myself as a feminist,

Samurai Champloo - This anime is significance to me as it reminds me of the creative ways that two distinct cultures can come together to make unique pieces of work. Ayn Rand’s Anthem and The Fountainhead - These books are significance to me lately as I found it interesting the way Ayn Rand used storytelling to present her complex ideology. Also the books make you question your personal beliefs regarding what is a individual ? Hilary Cottam: Social services are broken.…

Unlike the literature I am required to read during the school year, the books that I read for pleasure are more focused on issues that can relate to one's actual life. The books I read for pleasure are more of a release. For example, I read "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel to get a better view on the idea of intangible belief and dry factuality. I enjoyed "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury because it provided a new perspective on the idea of censorship. I also read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Of Mice and Men" in order to receive valuable insight on the idea of loss of innocence.…

I've read many books in my lifetime, but there is one that made me look at things completely different. The book is titled Speak, and is written by Laurie Halse. It made me see how real depression, PTS and rape are. It made me look through Melinda's eyes/mind and how she couldn't take to anyone about her problems, so instead she bottled everything up. It showed me to talk about these painful things and if someone doesn't listen, find someone that…

The book that I chose to read was The Curious Incident of the Dog At Night-time it is about a teenager named Christopher Boone and his life. The book is written from his perspective and talks mostly about his life with mild autism and his family relationships. Christopher’s autism makes what most people may think of as a simple task, very difficult. For example when Christopher had to ride the subway he was very scared, so much so that could barely function, this was triggered by of the amount of people around him. For me these struggles are not something I was familiar with before reading this book.…

Before the Women’s Rights Movement, women were subjected to the wants and needs of their husbands. Socially, women staying at home and doing what their husbands wanted was considered the societal norm. However, throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, some women used writing literature as a voice to show the social injustices brought against women. As more women began to voice their opinions, they were able to start changing the way that they were viewed. Some of these women include the author of “Sweat,” Zora Neale Hurston; the author of “The Story of an Hour,” by Kate Chopin; and the author of “The Yellow Wallpaper,” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.…

In the short story Happing Endings, Margaret Atwood conveys several unique ways of alternating the stories theme. For instance, in scenario A the couple John and Mary live a happy life with no conflict nor problems and dithery live and die happily. While in scenario B-F Atwood gives us scenarios of different conflicts and tragedies that's not surprisingly happen in peoples everyday life, but you still end up with the same outcome as scenario A. This short story gave me mixed emotions about, see what is the authors purpose of writing this piece, and also personal connections it might have towards me. I actually like the story Happy Endings but somewhat want to disagree but can’t with Atwood’s theory of how different scenarios of relationships will end.…
