The author of the essay, “Military Women in Combat, Why Making It Official Matters”, Jena McGregor starts right off by telling you the topic she will cover. She starts the essay with the sentence, “It’s been a big couple of weeks for women in the military” to draw in her audience by leaving them intrigued from something that hasn’t changed in years. After using that sentence to catch the audience’s attention, she then states, “Last week, female soldiers began formally moving into jobs in previously all-male battalions, a program that will later go Army-wide” as a strong thesis.
McGregor goes on to talk about how many jobs have opened to women in the military by the rules getting changed. Although she adds this huge fact she also added how …show more content…
She also mentions that if everything was opened to female only the talented ones who could go through infantry would get a higher ranking. This gives her audience the understanding that in some ways it still wouldn’t be fair for all women.
In Paragraph four, the author talks about how putting women in chief joints would help the army deal with rising sexual harassment issues. With facts like these they might give people a good reason as why to be more open with women having less limits in the military. McGregor also adds that beyond helping with that issue having women in different parts of the military will being diversity into the military. I agree with this statement because in today’s world we like to follow the saying, “Out with the old and in with the new.”

After reading and analyzing her writing I can see that there are problems with the way women are being treated in the military, but with people taking control this is slowly coming to an end.
