Such as homeless veterans, there are thousands of homeless veterans that roam the streets of the U.S. as they feel they are unfit to live in society or hold a normal job. Some may be suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) which is a disease that some veterans suffer from that gives them terrifying flash backs or similar symptoms from war, and living in a normal environment may frighten them because there may be to many people around or loud noises. Veteran homelessness has been an issue all throughout history, dating all the way back to the American Revolution. The first military pension law was drawn up in 1776. When Congress ended up not having the money for these payments, the burden was left on the states to pay as they pleased. The problem that soon arose was that only 3,000 veterans drew said pension. Later, during the Civil War, pensions were given to those with illness or disability discharges.…

I understand that veterans sacrificed a lot to give each and every one of us our freedom, but why should this group be the top priority in the battle against homelessness. According to “Endhomelessness.com” only 8.6% of the total homeless population across the country are veterans (http://www.endhomelessness.org/library/entry/fact-sheet-veteran-homelessness). Why should this small percentage of the homeless be the main focus when there is children and single mothers who are in the same situation: looking for food to eat and a place to sleep?
