Military Suicide Research Paper

Suicide. A word that makes me wonder, did a person start to think that there is a voice in the back of their mind that made their life go dark, that made them desperate to find an end to the torture and pain they are feeling. It makes me wonder if these “voice” told them that the only to end their pain, is by ending their life. Suicide is a word that makes me ask, how a person could be selfish enough to think that is the only way to stop the pain and suffering. Does that person forget about their family when this dark voice takes over? Do they think about the emotional pain their loved ones will have to go through once they are gone or pieces that their families will have to pick up? Or did they try to seek treatment and get help? Maybe. But they still listen to that voice in their head telling them it is the only way. Leaving people wondering why and was there anything that they could do. Roughly every eighty minutes a veterans commits suicide, that almost twenty-two veterans a day. Then, every thirty-six hours a sailor, Marine, solider or airman who is currently serving will take their life (Lindsay I. McCarl, 2013). Males, 18-29, suicide rates increased 44% between 2009 and 2011. Suicide rates among females increased 11% during the same time frame. In total the rate went from 88 people to 152 people in 2012. Between 2011 and 2012 there was 16% increase in the US military suicide rates. To break it down further, roughly one in five veterans will take their own life and veterans are two times more likely than civilian counterparts to commit suicide.
