On the third of June, Japanese planes attacked Dutch Harbor, Fort Glenns, and Mears in the Aleutians. Along with the attack on Australia, this was meant to be an attack that distracted and diverted the American fleet; however, due to the intelligence, the USN knew Midway was the main objective and was not dissuaded in any way. Even though the attack damaged Dutch Harbor severely, in the end, it hurt Japan far more than helping due to the loss of a slightly damaged Zero, which was recovered by American ground forces. This recovery led to the reveal of the weaknesses of the Zero, culminating in the previously unbeatable plane’s defeat. Today, less than one percent of the population of the United States of America puts on an uniform to protect the liberties of 99 percent of the rest of the population and just over 8 percent of the population of all living Americans are veterans. If we gaze into the eyes of a veteran we can see the love for their country, strength for their families and a courage that is indefinable. Their self-determination often provokes us to ask ourselves,"For their selfless service and willing sacrifice for their nation, what do veterans need and deserve to reestablish themselves in the society?" Indeed Abraham Lincoln, America's 16th president, formally recognized the importance of veterans with his second inaugural speech and famous quote,"To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan." President Lincoln's promise to care for those who shall have borne the battle ought to be one of the greatest privileges of an American citizen.…

Military deployment may adversely affect not only returning veterans, but their families, as well. As a result, researchers have increasingly focused on identifying risk and protective factors for successful family adaptation to war-zone deployment, re-integration of the returning veteran, and the longer-term psychosocial consequences of deployment experienced by some veterans and families. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among returning veterans may pose particular challenges to military and military veteran families; however, questions remain regarding the impact of the course of veteran PTSD and other potential moderating factors on family adaptation to military deployment. The Family Foundations Study builds upon an established longitudinal cohort of Army soldiers (i.e., the Neurocognition Deployment Health Study) to help address remaining knowledge gaps A growing literature indicates that family members…

The Congressional Medal of Honor is the nation’s highest award for valor in actions against the enemy given to individuals serving in the United States military. Since its inception in 1862, the Medal of Honor has been awarded 3,468 times, of which 621 were awarded posthumously (U. S. Army Center of Military History, 2015). Those who have been awarded this medal have displayed great valor in actions against the enemy in combat and should be regarded with honor and integrity. Fraudulent claims to have earned this medal, often referred to as stolen valor, tarnish the reputation of those who have. Stolen valor damages not only the individuals who are committing the act but also damages those who have served and the reputation and honor of the awards.…
