June 29th, 1863, 7:06am: Mail day today! I can´t wait, it´s been little over a month since mail last came. Last time it was only my mother and father who mailed me, not my sister, who is 13 now. She was not happy with my choice to volunteer for the war. But i had to right? Isn't that the justified thing to do when your country is at war with itself? Anyway, I hope she writes. But for now I have chores to do.

June 29th, 1863, 12:32pm : I´ve finished my morning chores. I cleaned up my tent and went through the camp rationing the little coffee we have left. While I was rationing I overheard two other privates Zach and Rick talking about a rumor that we might be moving camp further down to Gettysburg, Virginia. I couldn't get out of the conversation

This time they each wrote their own private letter. My father explained to me how the house has been falling apart and all he does is work on it while expressing his complaints about his bad back along with a ¨Stay safe son¨. My mother says how much she misses me and that she just wants the war to be over so she can hold me again. My sister even wrote. She talked about how she misses me as her big brother and she cant wait to play with me. It was a good day today.
June 30th, 1863, 7:05am: The rumors were true. This morning commander George Meade woke us up bright and early telling us that we are moving out. I packed my stuff and have been waiting for about a half hour now. Looks like we will be leaving soon.

June 30th, 1863, 3:22pm: Just arrived in Gettysburg. It looks like a decent place to stay and now we even have a little more food to spare. There is but one problem. As soon as we arrived there was talk of the Confederates moving in on attack. I just hope it's false because i was lucky last battle with just a graze to the leg but I will make due.

July 1st, 1863, 9:00am: It´s true. The Rebs are moving in and we are preparing for attack. I have my musket at my side waiting for the first bullets to be shot. One of my only friends Jake is on the front lines, I hope I will be able to see him after all this. Gun shots just sounded. I have to go. This may be my last

Due to Buford’s noteworthy defense, by the evening of July, 1, 1863, the Union defenses were not only reinforced but very strong. Prior to this reinforcement Lee ordered Richard Ewell to attack Cemetery Hill, Ewell’s failure to take the high ground created one of the controversial “ifs” of Gettysburg that have echoed down the years. Along with Ewell’s failure, Cavalry General J.E.B. Stuart’s failure to report Union positions is often cited as a blunder to deflect blame on Lee for losing the battle. Even Longstreet, Lee’s second in command, will not be free from blame by war’s end. Even though many people defend Lee today, Shaara does not shy away from exposing Lee’s tactical blunders halting the deification process in its…

Abraham Lincoln's carefully crafted address, secondary to other presentations that day, was one of the greatest and most influential statements of national purpose. In just over two minutes, Lincoln reiterated the principles of human equality espoused by the Declaration of Independence[5] and proclaimed the Civil War as a struggle for the preservation of the Union…

Kennedy’s inaugural address. All three of these speeches come at a time of despair in America. Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address during the Civil War. Reagan gave his State of the Union Address the same day the U.S. Space Shuttle, the Challenger, exploded.…

The war of Gettysburg started on July 1, 1863 and ended on July 3, 1863. The battle of Gettysburg lasted a small three days, but the war was perhaps one of the most deadliest wars ever fought out on American soil. Before the war of Gettysburg started, Robert E. Lee had won a tremendous battle at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia, in May 1863. After the battle Robert Lee had already came up with a plan to strike the North again. This time he would strike Virginia again, but this time at Gettysburg.…
