Despite terrorism being a word that many of us hear on a continuous basis, but not many people fully understand what it is or how it can come in many forms. In today 's world, when a person hears the word terrorism or terrorist, their first thoughts are usually Al Qaida, the 9/11 attacks, Isis and the wars that are going on in the Middle East. This is a common misconception. Even though all of those examples can easily be classified as terrorism, it is not limited to only those situations. The truth is, terrorism is something that is very difficult to define. Yes it is act of violence against another, usually motivated by some type of change they are trying to bring forth in extreme matters, but even "the United Nations has struggled to develop a definition that is mutually agreed upon by all of its members but has not succeeded" (Weissman, 2014).The simplest way to try to define terrorism is the use of armed forces, intimidation and violence in the quest of political aims. Aside from the military, there are organizations that exists in order to try to combat terrorism in more peaceful manners. Organizations that promote peaceful tactics in order to aid countries in war and suffering from terrorism have been able to provide successful aid. For example, there are thousands of local and international nongovernmental organizations, or INGOs for short, that have actually worked alongside the military in order to provide relief for other countries in need. By modelling situations and reviews past events, studies have found that " find that in tasks that are tightly coupled or nonlinear, the presence of both military and civilian intervention leads to improvements in human security outcomes" (Bell, 2013).
