Arming Former and Current Military Personnel

Shouldn’t there be a sense of security when going into work daily? Everyday we go on to work, school and many other places, but do not think about the “what if’s”. These “gun-free zones” have proven catastrophic in their casualties. Whenever a person joins the military they are putting their life on the line for their country and our safety. The toll that war takes on a person is astronomical. These people who are away at war are being mentally and physically toughened, whether it’s seeing people being killed or them doing the killing, it is helping their ability to come back home and be self-disciplined. Being able to protect their homeland is a reason why they may have gone into the military, so protecting federal officials will fall into that category as well. Protecting a federal building is not an easy task, but it should be manageable for a person who has endured the military path.
Why not arm a serviceman who already knows how to properly use a weapon? The first thing that is taught in boot camp is how to properly execute a weapon. When the men and women return home from war, they already have the knowledge of the weapon and can properly use it to protect their homeland. Having knowledgeable armed guards at federal buildings will reduce the number of casualties significantly. If we place a regular citizen with no prior experience out in front of the federal building there is a possibility that they will not be able to provide the amount of protection as our veterans

The article Gunman who killed 49 in Orlando nightclub had pledged allegiance to ISIS, highlights that America has a problem with gun control and assuring that the general public is safe from people who chose to use guns for wrong. Due to this situation, Omar Mateen who declared allegiance to ISIS, was easily able to access a gun and open fire inside of a nightclub called Pulse. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said, “Mateen had legally purchased two guns; .233-caliber AR-15-type assault rifle and a 9mm semiautomatic pistol.” I understand that many people use the, “I need a gun for protection” or “I’m going hunting” for an excuse to have a gun. This year alone there have been over twenty mass shootings (“2018 School Shootings”, Para. 1). Mass shootings have been a major problem for decades, it all started with the shooting at Columbine the most famous one. Ever since that shooting things have been spiraling out of control with no fix. The fix that we have needed for decades was arming teachers. Teachers should most definitely be armed because it would prevent more people from being killed, deter shooters from entering schools in the first place, and increase school safety overall.…

With the recent rise of mass shootings in our society, the question has once again rose to the top of popular debate. Should the government ban or limit the sale of assault weapons to the American public? This topic is of particular interest to me due the ramifications that the recent mass shootings have had on my local community. As a resident of the Washington D.C Metro area, I personally knew dozens of friends and local community members who worked at the Navy Yard the day of the mass shooting. On September 16.…

As of today, there have been 3,269 gun related deaths in the United States and 12,818 gun related incidents. Fifty seven of those incidents were mass shootings, five hundred and forty were home invasions, and three hundred and ninety two were defensive use (Gun Violence Archive). Most guns used in shooting are stolen in some way or another and yet, we still think that taking away the ability to buy them will stop all of the gun violence. Guns are not going away; it is time to arm those able to carry, allow concealed carry on college campuses, and to realize that taking away guns will not stop the mass shootings.…

Despite this, other changes can be made and new laws can be enforced to possibly minimize the amount of incidents that occur nationwide. Approximately 306 people are shot every day by assaults, suicides and police interferences. I believe in order to better this country for the path of less violence, a plan needs to be made to even further tighten our security, as well as our punishments, to better enforce the law of non-licensed people not being able to wield, or carry around a gun. This could be in the form of a bill, legislation, or even a new law passed by congress that proposes that any and all individuals seen or caught possessing a firearm illegally, or, in an area that prohibits them after being forewarned, will be prosecuted immediately. These laws will also come with more efficient security checks at places such as airports, clubs and crowded…

Most times private security officers are only required to have a one state background check, drug test, and obtain a FOID card. The training that a public police officer must obtain is much more extensive. The typical training and screening usually consists of an extensive background check, psychological exam, physical fitness test, and the applicants must also have a minimum level of college credits. As time has went on private security companies are realizing that the need for better training of the security officers is becoming essential over time.
