Military Experience Analysis

I am from South Korea, and even though the war between South Korea and North Korea is not physically going on at the moment, we are only in a cease fire agreement. Due to this, all South Korean men have to serve in the military for about 2 years (23 months). To many South Korean men, this is an extremely bothersome and painful time to go through. I was in the military from 2010 to 2012. This period of my life was the most frightening and rewarding time I have ever experienced. When I entered the army, I went through basic training for 7 weeks. It was my first time leaving society for a long amount of time. During this period, I couldn’t watch TV or even call my family and friends. I had to get train all day long, from morning to night. The quality of food and living conditions were really terrible. It was a very painful and lonely experience. I missed everything and cried often, but through this training period, I became stronger and healthier, through all of these things, I grew as an individual and got to experience many things that would stick with me even after life in the military. After 7 weeks, I became a military police officer and went to the MP base. I was a low ranking officer, nearly everyone was my senior. Regardless of this, I did my best and they started to like me. I also eventually got to call my parents and friends, which made me so happy. After that, my rank got higher and I became a Senior. I tried to treat my juniors better than I was treated, but some of my juniors proved to be just as bad, if not worse, than some of my seniors. On more than one occasion, I would confide in one of my juniors, only for them to turn around and tell my seniors. I just took this as a lesson to learn. I learned not to trust everyone I meet.
