The legal drinking age for military serving on active duty can vary from around the world. The minimum drinking age in the United States military is twenty-one and in other countries the minimum drinking age is eighteen. Germany has maybe the most relaxed laws for military personnel, which they only have to be eighteen to drink and can drink a maximum of two beers during the duty day. Young men and women can join the United States military at eighteen, have the right to vote, are tried as an adult in court, and are considered adults at this age. Therefore, the legal drinking age should be changed to eighteen because they have assumed the rights and responsibilities of an adult.

"If someone can risk their life, why shouldn't they be able to have a glass of beer or wine with dinner?" Also, Hugh Warner, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3285 in Frederick, said he didn't help initiate the legislation but agrees with it in concept. "If the young man's able to dodge bullets, he ought to be able to vote and take a beer now and then," Warner said (Rogers2).
