During the Vietnam War, US citizens were on edge because of the draft. This was because people who were drafted were forced to enlist into the armed forces without their consent. Some people really disagreed with the draft and they decided to start protesting. One way they protested was by burning their draft cards. When a country enters a war, it needs lots of people to help out. This may be done in many ways but serving in the armed forces is one of the biggest way to help. If the country that is in battle doesn’t have enough troops, they may need to institute a draft to help defend the country. One example is during the Vietnam War when few people were enlisting and the US needed to get more troops, so they began the first draft. The US did this not for a stupid reason but to help protect the country and the people’s freedom.
The draft isn’t always needed though. If the country isn’t in a conflict a draft shouldn’t be needed. The draft is a very situational event that sometimes isn’t needed at all.
