Military Draft Benefits

Decent Essays
There are many benefits to a country by women and men joining our government military. While there is a benefit I think the decision should be voluntary. Serving is not for everyone.

I would never think a draft is a good thing, because it isn't right to involve a person to go to war .I can understand asking people who are for a war and in line with their government to go to war. I can't see anything spot-on in sending people who are of different political beliefs than their government, or people who are against war, to fight in any war. It is possibly a death sentence, with no crime has been committed. Even when soldiers survive fighting one or more wars, they often have disorders related to the trauma for example post-traumatic stress syndrome.

You should have the right to choose if you want to go fight in the war one day or live your life free. Or choose if you want to be here for your family one day or not. How does one defend freedom when they are not free themselves? A draft is a forceful entry into the military, henceforth the rejection of freedom and free will. “We're a government that believes in everybody having the illusion of free will.” ― Anthony Burgess, the Wanting

As Debs quotes "They have always taught and trained you to believe it to be your patriotic duty to go to war" meaning the government has taught one as a child to serve your country. As you go along in school one develops this mentality that as a citizen of this country one has to fulfill duties that will help the country like fighting in wars. For example, since the start of school a person is required to pledge allegiance to the flag. Students would get in trouble if they were to refuse pledging to the flag. Similar to the draft if one were to resist it, then they would not be for filling their so call duties as a citizen of the United States.…

Some people feel that the draft is a necessity even during times of peace and want it to be reinstated. What those individuals really want is mandatory service requirements. The draft was used in the past because of a shortage of troops, however that’s not the case today. We should not reinstate the military draft because we currently do not need soldiers, it is unclear of who would serve and who would not and how they may perform, and the military would be demoralized due to lack of commitment and comradery from potential…

When a country can produce more troops than its enemy, as well as support from citizens the chances of victory weigh more than defeat. It is apparent that America’s government understood this concept when the Vietnam War took root. The Vietnam War consisted of a draft concluding all men from the ages of 18-25are required to fight in war. Fanatically deprived young men, who could not avoid the draft by paying for college, predominantly made up the capacity of troops. Conversely the rise of civil rights movement and the hippie movement gave a voice to young men who refused to fight in the Vietnam War and resisted the draft.…
