The first step in the Military Decision Making Process is receipt of mission. This is the initial assessment and when the commander’s initial guidance is introduced. During receipt of mission, it is commander’s responsibility to “filter information categorized by the operational variables into relevant information with respect to the mission” (Military Decision Making Process Handbook, 2011).
