Incidents At The Citadel Essay

On December 10, 2015, an incident took place at The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina, that went against all it stands for. The Citadel is a school that has been building principled leaders and is the number one public school in the south. The school also has tons of traditions and a great history of being leaders of this country and great civilians. Citadel also has core values that must be followed by everyone who attends the school. The core values are “Honor, Duty, Respect”. The incident that took place goes against those core values and brought discredit to The Citadel. The incident that took place was that seven “knobs”, known as freshman cadets, dressed up in all white for the “ghosts of Christmas past” skit and had pillow …show more content…
Cadets at The Citadel live by an honor code and have good intentions. However, one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch and that’s what’s happening. The Citadel and everyone who has ever attended is getting thrown into the same category as the seven who are being labeled as racist. Those seven cadets will get their punishment for what it’s worth but, they don’t deserve to be bashed and hated by everyone for one harmless mistake. They aren’t racist, they were just some young boys trying to get on some of their upperclassmen’s good side. It was all just one bad joke that took a horrible turn. The media will never understand that truth, they will make it out to be something way worse but that’s alright, The Citadel is in control of the situation and will make sure everything goes as it should. The Citadel takes pride in everything they do so they will discipline the knobs that brought this negative attention to the school, however, it will take time to earn back the respect of the media and other people who were deeply offended by the “racist gesture”. The Citadel’s President, General Rosa, and his administration are top of line and very good at what they do. The last thing they need when dealing with this situation is the media and the general public spreading rumors and bashing the school for all the wrong reasons. This is a prime example of how you can one hundred good things and one bad thing and all people pay attention to is the

The siege of Yorktown changed the face of the revolutionary war and history by giving America their independence. In Oct 1781, the Continental Army overran the British redoubts surrounding their defensive positions. Lt-Gen Cornwallis failed at logistically placing the British and Hessian armies at Yorktown, and Lt-Gen Cornwallis fleet was trapped by Rear Admiral Comte de Grasse’s fleet, and prevented the British and Hessian armies rescue by the British fleet. Society is not an all-male world anymore, it is an interracial society in which men cannot just be leaders by showing their masculinity. This is one of the reason why men go to an all-male institution. At the Citadel, cadets are able to create their small world and “feel called to defend those walls”, because some things in their lives are “endangered from without” (Faludi 103). For this reason, the cadets feel that the Citadel is a place where they can not only discharge their feelings but also feel better by earning the sense of becoming leaders and winners. Henceforth, the immediate context is just a trigger that gives opportunity for people to behave in a certain way.…

The Battle of Bunker Hill was a fierce battle that showed the British that the Americans were not going to give the fight for freedom. The colonial militia had over 1000 men, who were led by William Prescott, were quickly constructing ramparts and earthen fortifications on top of Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill and along the Charlestown peninsula. British troops opened fire on the Americans, “But in spite of the cannon balls, Colonel William Prescott walked on the top of the ramparts and his men carried on digging.”…

That happened to be the case with United States Constitution; no law stated that a state could not leave the union and start another country or group of states, which happened to have a tremendous effect on the young and growing United States of America. In the time leading up to the Civil War the North kept raising taxes on imports which benefited them greatly, however, the South was struggling to stay alive cause they were not getting any money back from the products they sold. What led to the American Civil War is a topic of debate which lacks a simple answer. There is heated debate whether the war was fought for emancipation or to preserve the Union. Historians can advocate for either argument since both sides have ample evidence to support their respective standpoint. Both Hollywood and scholarship agree that the Civil War is a war to preserve the Union. While the issue of slavery was a massive factor in the war, it was not the defining factor.…
