Military Child Resilience

The purpose of this article is to address the unknown stressors that military children face while in the educational system. One stressor that was addressed is the higher rate of military children that have been away from a deployed parent for long periods are at a greater risk of emotional and behavioral problems (Meadows, 2012). The article goes on to discuss how military children are resilient to certain stressors but with limited studies to support these statements. Further, the author question what are the factors that lead to resilience and how families can assist during the phase of reintegration when the deployed parent returns home. In this article the purpose is to address resilience among military families and their children. The author stated that children from military Reserve families are exposed to dual lives as “citizen soldiers” due to participating in public schools, health care facilities, and working in the civilian community (Wadsworth, 2013). The author provides research relating to family systems and how this relates to the understanding of family resilience in the home, school, and workplace. Throughout the scholarly article, the author provided multiple studies relating to family resilience. In addition, the author has numerous resources within the article that could be used to further my topic exploration. The article didn’t focus on military children and their effects on education, but the focus relating to resilience will help in understanding how school age children learn to adapt to various situations. Overall, this article will be used for continuing the research relating to my current topic
