Military Career Path

For as long as I can remember, being in the United States military and having a job in the medical field have been meaningful goals of mine. Although I believe that I was born to be in the military and the medical field, there have been numerous events in my life that have further convinced me of these decisions. In an attempt to determine that the medical field was indeed the career path for me, it was important to explore this line of work. I acquired a volunteer job at University Hospitals Portage Medical Center, I shadowed a Physician Assistant, and I became a lifeguard. As a volunteer at the hospital, I discharge patients, transport materials across the hospital, and work the front desk. I have learned so much about how a hospital functions, interacting with people, and that I can picture myself having a career in a hospital. Shadowing was another great experience that solidified my decision of choosing the medical field and directed me to the specialty I want to work. After shadowing in the emergency room, I knew emergency medicine was for me because of the fast-pace environment and the opportunity to treat so many patients in a short amount of time. Being in the military is something I have wanted to do for as long as I can remember. Times like when I get the horrible feeling in my stomach when I am informed of the latest news of a terrorist attack to learning about all the greatness of our country in government class inspire me to join the military. Being a leader is something that I take pride in; therefore, I plan on participating in ROTC during college. This is the best way to accomplish my goals of being in the medical field and being a leader in the military.
