BM: Would you say that military boot camp is intense?
HP: I think that it is intense mentally, not intense physically because you have to learn many military rules as soon as you start boot camp. It can get overwhelming because everything comes at you in a short period of time.
BM: What mental stresses do recruits have to deal with before and after boot camp?
HP: Well, before boot camp, you have to learn the rules. We go to technical training, so we have 8 weeks to learn about our job. It goes at a very fast pace and there are no recreational activities while training. Throughout the 8 weeks, you will miss home and family but especially after boot camp.
If someone decides to join the military, I think that this takes a lot of commitment and responsibility. They have to consider leaving their family and home behind. They are also controlled and are limited to recreational activities. At this point, they are left on their own because their family will not be around.
