Miley Cyrus’ Vanity Fair Scandal Miley Cyrus, the renowned daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus acquired a passion for acting and singing at a young age. In 2004, Cyrus landed the role of Hannah Montana in a Disney series targeted to young teens. The series depicted Cyrus as a young pop star who reserved her celebrity identity in order to be a normal teenager. Cyrus gained record setting success from the wide reception of the Disney series coupled with her music. However, in 2008 Miley Cyrus took one of the first steps in distancing herself from the wholesome Disney Channel brand (Bio.com, n.d.). Fifteen year old Miley Cyrus was photographed by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz showing a bare back and shoulders with a satin blanket covering her chest. Her hair draped over her shoulder and her lips were of a red shade. The accompanying article written by Bruce Haydee included quotes from Cyrus about ‘Sex …show more content…
Disney faulted the source that was not associated with its brand in one statement while holding the party that is associated with the network accountable for their actions. Disney strategically distanced itself from the crisis while decreasing the blowback on its’ employee. An alternative to Disney’s actions would be a more detailed campaign to redirect the Vanity Fair scandal. This campaign would include research, action, communication, and evaluation. A survey would be given to the parents of the targeted age of the series. From this survey Disney Channel would be able to calculate the damages from the photograph. Next, Miley would need to maintain age appropriate behavior until her brand recovered. Miley would also be subjected to a press conference to apologize to her fans and address any confusions with the photo shoot. By answering multiple questions her statements will be more believable. Lastly, after these actions are enforced another survey would be disseminated to evaluate any progress in perceptions of Miley
