Miles Halter Character Analysis

Miles Halter is an average junior who doesn’t have many friends, however he is fairly intelligent and does well in school. He decided to switch schools and his parents insist on throwing a going away party. He knew that no one would come, not even the drama people and English geeks that he eats lunch with. The only people that show up are a couple that seemed to come out of pity. He is an only child that lives with his parents in Florida before transferring to the Culver Creek boarding school in Alabama. Miles has always been interested with death stories and memorizes dozens of famous people’s words. He loves to read biographies to learn their stories, but does not enjoy their actual work. She left the school and tried to get to the cemetery. She hated herself for forgetting and was extremely mad. They assumed that this combined with her high BAL is what caused the accident. After Alaska’s death, one of their teacher’s decides to make the class write a paper about how they would get out of their labyrinth of suffering in dedication to Alaska.before summer break, Chip and Milkes find out that Takumi had known the story of Alaska’s death the whole time, hiding it from his friends. After this event, Miles had realized that in order to survive in the labyrinth you must learn how to forgive. He had to forgive Takumi for keeping the secret and he knew that Alaska forgave them for not stopping her that night. The group of friends had to forgive Alaska for not telling the whole story and abruptly leaving the school when it was obvious she was not stable enough to drive. Forgiveness is the key to survive. Learning this and writing about Alaska at the end of the book helped him escape the labyrinth that Alaska had put him in. He had suffered a lot at Culver Creek, but he came out a new person, looking at life differently. He is now more than ever on his way to find his Great
