Miles Bridges: A Short Story

What started off as a bad day would turn into the best day of my 11 years of life. I just didn’t know it. The news he gave us almost caused me to faint. I looked all around at the other players and I knew none of them were as shocked or as excited as me. This is gonna be a day to remember.

“Swish!” I had just drained a 3-pointer and I was hotter than a blue flame. “Ok guys come over here.” Drew Neitzel said. “You might not all know this but it is a camp tradition to bring in either a current or former Michigan State basketball player.”
“No Way.” I said., I crossed my fingers and hoped and prayed that he would say that he was going to bring in Miles Bridges. Choking on excitement, Drew said, “Do any of you know who Miles Bridges is?” Once you guys are done eating your lunch he

There was no way I was going to get an autograph. My eyes filled with tears that wanted to flow like Niagara Falls. I was sadder than a kid whose ice cream just fell on the ground. But then I had a idea.
I took my basketball and went behind Miles and tossed my ball to him before he could sign another thing. He looked at me and said. “You look like a great player, work hard and you can be as good as me, here you go buddy.” And he tossed the ball back to me with his Signature!
Whoa. That’s all that was running through my head. The world was spinning I turned around smiling and noticing all the other jealous salty people that would never get that said to them. I could not believe it to say the least. Miles Bridges just told me if I work hard enough I can be good as him.

“Ok guys Miles has got to go now.” Drew said with sadness. As he was heading off I looked at my brown basketball and a scribbled Miles Bridges was on it front and center. I realized I would never use it again. The words that he said will stick with me the rest of my life. I know for a fact that I will forget my name before I forget that
