This movie does not portray characters as deeply as it should. The town of Milagro is already a mystery to me, and many others: I have never seen a group of people like this. If I had been given a bit more information about them and their culture, I would have been more invested in this movie. For instance, we were given no information about the woman that threw rocks. Did she not like people? Was she crazy? She wasn’t an important character, but it would have been better if they had explained why she threw rocks or any information about her. Another character in the movie that needed more depth and background was the NYU student, Herbie Platt. They explained that he was a student from New York University and that he was there for a research project, but they did not put any information about him. What his culture was like versus their culture, or anything about his family, assuming he has one. The old man, in the beginning was a mystery as well. Throughout the movie though, you begin to learn more and more about him and his culture because Herbie asked many questions about him. I did enjoy how they made it a mystery at first, but the producers should’ve done this for, at least, the main characters. On the other hand, there were many good things about this
