Mike Tyson

The reason I chose Mike Tyson to represent Tom Buchanan is that they are both similar physically and how they are as a person. Although racially they may be different they are both very muscular. Additionally they are both athletic. Mike Tyson is well known boxer while Tom is a former college football player. A similarity of how they are as is a person is that both are rich. Tom’s wealth can be seen when he buys Daisy a three hundred and fifty thousand dollar necklace. Mike Tyson used to be worth 200 million dollars he is now worth one million dollars. Although he is now worth considerably less than before he is still more rich than most people. Additionally both are aggressive. Both have them have also cheated. Mike cheated various times on a drug test deceiving the testers. While Tom cheats on his wife with Myrtle and lies about it to his wife. That is why I chose Mike Tyson to represent Tom. I chose the song “The Day That Never Comes” by Metallica to also represent Tom. The lyrics describe Tom very well. For example when Metallica sings, “He hits the flesh/ You hit the ground”, it represents Tom’s aggression towards other people such as Myrtle. When they sing, “Mouth so full of lies”, it shows Tom keeping his affair with Myrtle a secret from Daisy. Near the end of the song the band sings, “Love...is a four letter word/ And never spoken here”. This represents how Tom and Daisy’s relationship is very dysfunctional. It is almost as if they do not love each other which is what these lyrics show. The final lyrics that represent Tom are, “I’ll put an end to this, I swear”. This is similar to how Tom promised Daisy that he will no longer cheat on her and that he will love her. For these reasons the song “The Day That Never Comes” represents
