WOOSTER — A meeting with U.S. House Republicans and Vice President-elect Mike Pence has two area congressmen feeling upbeat about the new administration’s priorities.
Republicans Bob Gibbs (Lakeville) and Jim Renacci (Wadsworth) were among those attending a meeting with Pence, who said President-elect Donald Trump wants to make sure his administration keeps its promises made to Americans during the presidential campaign.
“It was a good meeting,” said Gibbs, whose 7th Congressional District includes all or parts of Holmes, Ashland, Medina, Tuscarawas, Stark, Lorain, Huron, Richland, Holmes, Knox and Coshocton. “It is an aggressive agenda, and I think the No. 1 thing is that we will keep our promises.”

Pence told the Republicans Trump plans to cut the inaugural parade short so he can get to the Oval Office and start rescinding President Obama’s executive orders.
As for tax reform, Renacci created a plan, with some revisions from his Bipartisan Working Group, that will eliminate the corporate income tax and establish a consumption tax. It also reduces the marginal tax rate groups from seven to three: 10 percent, 25 percent and 35 percent. About 99.9 percent of all taxpayers will see a reduction.
“I put my plan in the transition team’s hands, so they have it,” Renacci said, adding he has talked with many people on the transition team about the plan.
Following the meeting, Renacci had a chance to speak with his friend, Pence, who visited the district twice to campaign and raise money for Renacci. The two routinely text one another. He was glad to hear Pence will not only have an office in the Senate, but the House, too, “so there will always be communication with the vice president’s office,” Renacci said. “It’s nice to know you have the ability to communicate with people inside the administration,” something that has been lacking. “I’m one of the few voices who can get to the administration for the people of

The Pros of a Donald Trump Presidency American politics have always fascinated me. Where else can you find a medium that discusses some of the world's most pressing issues, while at the same time giving you an opportunity to analyze American behavior as it unfolds upon a political system that has influenced many other countries, including the Dominican Republic. But let’s be honest, politics can also be very dull, with its insipid candidates, anticlimactic voting system, and laws worded in such a way that would confuse even Joyce. Thank god for Donald Trump!…

In November of 2016, Donald J. Trump was elected president of the United States. A part of Trump’s platform is a hard stance on foreign policy, indicative in his speech on August 15th of 2016, before election; Trump spoke to his supporters about his attitude towards terrorism and the site Politico provided a transcript. Campaigning against Clinton and a staunch opponent of Obama’s administration, Trump believes “the rise of ISIS is the direct result of policy decisions made by President Obama and Secretary Clinton” (politico). Ideally, he would have liked to control the oil to prevent the rise of ISIS, through seizing their funding and keeping U.S. forces on ground to protect the oil (politico). Recently our country has gone through the process of electing the 45th President of the United States. Although the country was split 50/50 on who to vote for Donald J. Trump came out victorious as the new President. After watching President Trump’s Inaugural Address I have come to the following conclusions about the topic of Popular Sovereignty. During the primary election season there was much discussion regarding whether bipartisanship is a positive or negative attribute as it relates to the work of the U.S. Congress. When I speak to students, I often mention the vital role of partisanship within the legislative branch of government. Since the majority party controls the legislative agenda, partisanship equates to being in a position of legislative leadership. But some – including former Sen. Evan Bayh and Sen. Olympia Snowe – blame the increase in partisanship in Congress for the U.S. Senate becoming “dysfunctional.”…
