In the sports novel Heat by Mike Lupica, a 12 year old boy faces a challenge of living with only his older brother Carlos in a tiny house in the Bronx. He pursues a dream of not only playing in the Major Leagues, but playing in the World Series. The book opens with a lady getting robbed of her purse while walking by Yankee stadium. The thief (an 18 year old boy) runs from the cops for a while before being nailed in the back of the head with a baseball. It turns out that the one who threw the ball was he 12 year old boy, Michael. He made a perfect throw from home plate to deep center field to knock out the thief.
