they traveled down this river. It is obvious that they could go to a different river, however, all rivers are polluted then where will they go? Eventually aquatic animals will die out just like the human race. Water, also plays an essential part in growing crops. Mike Kilen exclaims, “Yet his 4,500 acres farmed between family members are part of a government demonstration project using stream-side filters and cover crops for conservation.” In elementary school we learned that in order for crops to grow there needs to be sunlight and water. If you subtract water then there is no way to grow crops.
While water is very important so is agriculture. It is critical that people realize that agriculture is very important in Iowa’s economy. Iowa sells

People that live in the city have a major impact on the environment. This is easy to see when Mike Kilen announces, “One statistic widely disseminated through national media and online sources last year indicated that 40 to 60 percent of nitrogen applied to lawns through fertilizer winds up in surface and groundwater, a percentage attributed to the Environmental Protection Agency.” This quote says that we are doing just as much harm with city fertilizers as farming fertilizers. People who live in the city are even more to blame than farmers. This is shown when Mike Kilen affirms, “Residents use too much fertilizer on their lawns, he said, and then compound the error by overwatering, flushing it all away.” Farmers typical use the bare minimum of fertilizers on their field to save money however this is obviously not true with people who live in the city. The government, also, plays a role in the pollution of our rivers. This is proved when the Des Moines Register reports, “The state has even fewer restrictions on facilities with 1,249 or fewer hogs. Facilities of that size are not required to maintain any separation at all from neighbors and they need to not submit manure-management plans.” As you can see here the government is relaxed on its hog confinement rules. Krakauer mood changes throughout the book/story about how he feels about Chris he says a lot of stuff that he might disagrees and sometimes he agrees with him about it. Krakauer talk a lot of Chris because of the choices he made during the story and how he lived and how he tried to survive in the wild. I will also be talking about how he connects and the opposite of what he says about Chris McCandless. On August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking in the middle of the street when they were approached by a police officer by the name of Darren Wilson. With there being altered stories explaining what happened next rather than choosing one side of the story we can agree that an altercation occurred and it led to the unfortunate death of eighteen year old Michael Brown. Because of the differing stories and videos online, I will not focus on whether I feel like the killing of Michael Brown was justified, but whether the process to indict/or not to indict Officer Darren Wilson was justified and not flawed. Beginning as soon as you read the table of contents of the DOJ report on the Ferguson Police Department…

Little Nimrod is the killer because of the events that took place before the incident occurred. The first piece of evidence pointing to Little Nimrod being the killer are the dead birds lying next to the skid marks on the edge of the cliff. This is important because the birds are right next to wear C.C. Robin had been sitting before he fell. The birds seem to have been shot by a poacher, one of the things little Nimrod is. In the police report they stated that C.C. Robin had a heavy blow to the head which was the cause of death.…

In Jon Krakauer’s Into The Wild, Christopher McCandless, prior to embarking in his Alaskan Odyssey, writes a letter to his aged friend, Ron Franz, stating his stance on human relationships: “You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships … you do not need me or anyone else around to bring this kind of light into your life.” (57) McCandless further explains that the dependence on others to be happy is unnecessary, as one can be perfectly content on his own, once he finds beauty in nature and life experiences. I partially agree with this argument, as I value the balance between self-reliance and human relationships; By spending time alone, I become more appreciative of time spent with others. Last summer,…

Corey Turner remembers collecting participation trophies from the YMCA soccer program he was involved in as a young athlete. These trophies are now sitting in a dusty box somewhere in his parent's basement. This leads him to question whether or not young athletes should receive trophies for just showing up. Corey Turner is not alone, people across the nation have debated this issue for as long as youth sports have been in existence. I believe that kids should not get trophies for participating because kids should learn life lessons from both wins and losses and participation trophies do more harm than good.…

In the articles “Three Cheers for the Nanny State,” “Ban the Ban!,” and “Soda’s a Problem but…”, all three authors present their arguments with facts, opinions, and counterclaims. However, one article presents itself better than the rest. I believe that the article “Soda’s a Problem, but...” was the most convincing article. Sarah Conly- the author who wrote “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”- argues that the soda restriction is a good idea because people would be stopped from making foolish decisions that they’ll pretty definitely regret.…

Everyone has time to be healthy Freshman 15 is an expression used to describe an arbitrary amount of weight students put on in their first year of post secondary studies, usually due to unhealthy eating and poor exercise habits. Students say they struggle finding a balance between work, leisure, and maintaining healthy habits, leading to a lack of exercise, and poor nutrition. These complaints are clearly caused by a lack of intrinsic motivation and a growing status quo of complacency, rather than actual time constraints. Despite the vast number of home workouts that one can complete in under ten minutes, students will still excuse themselves from any form of physical activity, in favour of inactive alternatives. The problem is further pushed…
