Mike Babcock although still in his twenty’s has had a hard time being able to stick to one team. He had been fired from many teams from all leagues, he was about to give up on hockey and already had a job lined up as an accountant in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. Then he got a phone call that would change his life one more. The call was from Peter Anholt, coach of the Red Deer Rebels, he then began to tell him about the job opportunity for a new head coach in the University of Lethbridge. With no doubt he took the job. Over the course of the season the players started believing that Babcock was doing the right thing, they started seeing chemistry between player, they started becoming a hard to play against team. When it came to play offs they were still the underdogs but mike and his team knew what they were capable of. The first playoff game of the season was a tough nail-bitter lose. The next game was another close game with Lethbridge pulling out the win with an amazing bar down power play goal. The series was tied at 1-1, emotions were running high. In the third game it was a tie game all through regulation. Mike could see the nerves within the players and spoke about all the hard work they had put in this season and that there was no room for… then the phone rang. The trainer of the dressing room ran to answer the phone. Mike was furious but new he had to remain calm to keep the focus in the dressing room. The trainer them yelled out “its God calling, he wants us to win tonight.ˮ they ended up taking the series and that then became a ritual when they need a boost. When the playoff games started getting hard they stepped up to the plate and started out working the other team if it was either the Brandon Bobcats or the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, they were winning. Before the final game Mike reminder, the team to stay discipline, like he had all season.
