Midwives have a multitude of responsibilities, which each requires high quality professionalism, understanding and empathy. As caregivers, they are expected to provide the upmost antenatal and postnatal care, in order to boost the patients’ health and wellbeing during and after pregnancy, find any problems or concerns early on and manage or if at high risk, refer to a doctor or medical specialist. As a planner and organiser, it is also their role to organise, provide detailed reviews on the women’s health, and care progress with the patient’s regular input and agreement.
