I have been inspired to study midwifery ever since I shadowed my cousin, a midwife, at a hospital in Pakistan. After that visit, I started researching the role of a midwife and realised the midwife is the lead person in providing advice, care and support for women, and their families before, during and after childbirth. I knew this would be the most suitable career for me as I would enjoy helping expectant mothers bring new life into this world.
To explore more about midwifery, I had a great opportunity to attend a one week placement in the maternity ward at Hillingdon hospital. My interest and enjoyment of Maths will assist me in calculating the doses of drugs in the midwifery field. By always meeting the deadlines of my BTEC assignments, this demonstrates my commitment to learn. The independent study skills that I learnt doing coursework has prepared me for a higher level of education. Achieving Distinctions in most of the units shows my enthusiasm to manage the challenges of studying midwifery I understand that midwives work with other members of the multidisciplinary team, such as obstetricians, health visitors and maternity care assistants. Whilst doing experiments in chemistry units, I have gained practical skills and enhanced my team player skills by working in groups. My four days health sciences summer taster course at university gave me a deep insight into the midwifery course by talking to student midwives and lecturers.
