I also volunteer on an occupational therapy ward where I have been responsible for organising activities to help encourage patient independence. My effective communication skills meant I was able to build trusting relationships with customers and this will be useful when building mutual partnerships when supporting women and their families. Working in banking also taught me the importance of confidentiality which I also understand to be a fundamental principle in Midwifery practice. Working in a hair salon I was able to build a rapport with women very quickly and I’m very enthusiastic on practical learning and attention to detail; my focus on practical learning will help me when learning skills such as auscultation and palpation. I actively listened to clients so I fully understood their needs and ensured they received the best care. I work well as part of a team and I understand this would be important when working within a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal care is provided for the woman. I have experience of working unsocial/long hours and believe I am able to maintain a healthy work/life balance through hobbies such as hiking/gorge walking where concentration/being responsible is vital to avoid injury/danger; my calm, conscientious and focused personality will be applicable in a busy NHS where clear focus remains on the needs of the woman.
