Register to read the introduction… Recently Midwestern Medical Group integrated to become a part of the Midwestern Health Systems. Midwestern Health Systems set financial goals and actually anticipated a loss. Midwestern Health Plan experienced the same loss and has since rebuilt using the Market Business Segment Business Model. The President of Midwestern Health Systems soon unveiled the plan to implement the Market Business Segment Business Model into Midwestern Health Systems and Midwestern Medical Group. This plan required moving from three divisions to two divisions. Implementing this change required that all communication remain open between divisions. The purpose of this model is to help the different divisions to be less conflicting and reduce the amount of tension present between divisions. The decision-making is left to the divisions. Very often, there is resistance to change and the integration of new procedures within an organization. Resistance may come because of misunderstandings or a feeling of inadequacy. The leadership in one division may feel as if their toes are being stepped on. Midwestern Health Systems allowed each division to govern themselves in terms of implementing the change and decision-making. The divisions were required to have open communication. The biggest challenge or barrier implementing change in the health care organization is the amount of tension and conflict among the existing divisions. Open Communication is encouraged with the hope of overcoming this barrier. Conflict is the biggest barrier that needs to be overcome in order for the organization to be successful. Midwestern Medical Group has conflicts with health care specialists due to their conflicts with other facilities. Interpersonal relationships are important in all aspects of business and in health care. In this case, Midwestern Medical Group has had challenges maintaining close interpersonal relationships with other facilities as well as physicians and specialists. Midwestern Medical Group has two challenges to overcome in order for them to be successful and to foster the relationship with Midwestern Health Systems. Midwestern Medical Group needs to work to overcome tension present with the other division in Midwestern Health Systems; they also need to overcome the conflict present with health care specialists.
