The Midwestern Contemporary Art museum is considered one of the largest modern art facilities in the country. It was created in 1945 to document contemporary visual culture through the techniques of sculpture, painting, photography, and various other contemporary arts. The museum and its organization started from humble beginnings, over four decades the museum went from “an insignificant art showroom in a converted bakery into what is known today as a major shrine to contemporary art.” But the museum has had its share of problems over its history starting with the expansion of the organization under the leadership of Peter Smith who is the board chairman, and Keith Schmidt who is the museums executive director.
