My internship is with Haven House Services, they have three main branches and 11 programs overall. Their main goal is to strengthen and uplift youth in the community and try to keep them out of trouble and off the streets. Haven House is considered a "safe place" where the kids come to escape violence or trauma in their lives. Currently, I am approximately halfway through my internship and it's safe to say that I have learned a lot. Originally I chose Haven House because of the Restitution and Community Service Program because I wanted to work with Hope Reins (a horse therapy/activity for at-risk youth). However, this didn't work out and I am partnered with the Director for Second Round Boxing and the Quality Assurance personnel. Working with each of these entails completely different responsibilities. As a Second Round intern, I focus on files and interaction with families. The boxing program works in 3 phases to ensure the children as well informed and so that the program keeps a positive environment, a place to release some stress. Phase One is the main orientation when families are explain exactly how the program works, phase two is the paperwork stage where loads of documents have to be signed and reviewed, and the last phase is when kids can finally come work out in the …show more content…
Many of the readings have been insightful into the world of applied sociology and definitely has given me an appreciation for the work that applied sociologist do. However, the one thing I wish was that the syllabus was broken down into weeks instead of classes. Because I am such a structured person, I like having a breakdown of my work so that I can be sure when exactly something should be completed. Lastly, I hope in our next class meeting we discuss the Final Products because as of right now I am unsure of what exactly I need to be
