Frame Story In A Midsummer Night's Dream

A frame story is a story constituting a frame for another story or a series of other stories. The play A Midsummer Night’s Dream is comedy consisting of a frame story and four other concurrent stories. The frame story in the play is of the marriage between Theseus, the duke of Athens, and Hippolyta, the queen of the amazons. The other four stories are: the dispute between Hermia and Egeus; the play, put together by laborers for Theseus’s wedding; the dispute between Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of the fairies, over a changeling; and finally the story of Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius and Helena. At the end of the story, Shakespeare manages to tie them all together for a comical and happy ending. The frame story consists of the marriage between Theseus and Hippolyta. Theseus is the Duke of Athens. Hyppolita is queen of the Amazons, which has been conquered. The wedding is set to take place four days from the date of the introduction. Titania refused to hand the boy over to Oberon, so Oberon decided to get revenge by using a flower’s magical juice to make Titania fall in love with the next thing she sees. Titania wakes up to be in love with laborer. Titania relinquishes the child to Oberon to focus on her love. Once she is no longer in love, the king and queen come together and dance and then leave the scene. The story of the play is of a few laborers who get together to plan a play they hope to show at Theseus’s wedding. Bottom is the man who is going to play the lead part. When they decide to practice the play at the woods, Bottom is given an ass’s head. Titania, the queen of fairies, falls in love with him and offers to have her fairies wait on him and serve him. Bottom is abandoned once Oberon got his
