The Midsummer Night’s Dream Movie Critique “The Midsummer Night’s Dream” was directed by Michael Hoffman and was set in Lazio, Tuscany, and at Cinecitta Studios, Rome, Italy. The film is a Romantic-Comedy. The film is about two men, Lysander and Demetrius, and two women, Helena and Hermia, and fairies, Titania and Oberon. The film starts with the Duke and his Fiancé about to get married. One of the Hermia’s father goes up to the Duke and the father wants Hermia to marry Demetrius who she does not want to marry. Hermia decides to run away with her lover Lysander and she tells her friend Helena, but Helena is in love with Demetrius and Helena tells Demetrius to get him alone and it works. Demetrius tells Helena that he does not love her and that he loves Hermia and that is when he runs away again. Oberon sends Puck to find a flower that makes people fall in love when its moisture from within is placed on their eyelids. Puck does so and accidentally puts it on the wrong man, Lysander, and then Lysander falls in love with Helena and chaos happens. Finally, every gets who they are supposed to be with at the end. In my opinion “Midsummer Night’s Dream” is an okay film to watch. An important character in this movie that sticks out is Helena, played by Calista Flockhart, who fits this role; she seems very annoying and childish within this movie. Her self-pity party was what annoyed me the most. She was such a brat because, Demetrius “loved” Hermia and not herself. Hermia, played by Anna Friel, is well suited to the
