“A chamber of commerce is an organization of businesses seeking to further their collective interests, while advancing their community, region, state or nation” (ACCE, 2009). A chamber begins in a town, city, or territory when business owners voluntarily form a chamber to advocate for community and economic prosperity. According to the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, chambers have been in existence for over two centuries (ACCE, 2009). A chamber functions by the members of the chamber electing a board of directors that in turn hires a chief executive to set policies and guiding procedures for the chamber. While many Chambers of Commerce exist in the United States, as well as internationally, they do not all function the same way.

The U.S. Chamber more than 3 million business of all different standings; large business corporations all the way to small mom-and-pop shops are represented by the Chamber. All of those business “. . . share one thing—they count on the Chamber to be their voice in Washington, D.C.” (U.S., 2016). The U.S. Chamber was founded on April 22, 1912 when President William Howard Taft requested 700 delegates from businesses and chambers across the nation to bring “. . . assistance in carrying on the government in reference to those matters that affect the business and the business welfare of the country. . . “(U.S., 2016). Thus, the United States Chamber of Commerce was founded. As of today, the U.S. Chamber is made up of a strong leadership team, lobbyist and policy experts, and over 1,500 volunteers, who all work to advocate for the business world on issue such as debt and deficit, health care, free speech, labor, taxes, and much more. I think the Chamber is a powerful example of what can be accomplished when people are willing to work together. This might not always involve agreeing with who you work together with, but sharing a common goal: the betterment of your community. The long lasting establishment of Chamber of Commerce organizations all over the nation prove that this is an institution that works, and if it did not exist I believe the business world would be lacking enormously. I also find the Chamber of Commerce commendable on the national, state, and local level because it is not something that gets a tremendous amount of recognition, but that does not stop Chambers from playing such a vital part in their community. By researching all of different levels of impact of Chambers, and the way they have served their communities for so long, I can say with certainty that the business world is a much better place because of Chambers of
